The corporate team at my home in Watertown, New York has been buzzing with excitement about some digital out-of-home industry stats that were just recently released. As soon as I heard that a company email was going around with the news, I’ve been eagerly waiting to hear what’s got them all astir!
Since I’ve been pretty busy repping our clients on the road and didn’t have time to take a look for myself, Kevin (aka “the man” aka the tech guy) took a few minutes to fill me in one day as he prepared me for my daily route. I became so excited that I began to shed happy tears of window washer fluid! (Okay, not really, but I did get a little emotional.) Let me fill you in on what’s up because it’s seriously awesome.
Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) Advertising Is Thriving During a Pandemic
First of all, I’m not gonna lie, I was a little worried about my team this spring when they said I might need to spend some extra time in the garage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though they reassured me that Ford Transits weren’t affected, I still had concern for the really awesome humans that I share my home with. And let’s be real, as much as I love our cool facility and jamming out with Glenn’s music in the garage bay, I didn’t know how long I could listen to It’s Tricky on repeat…
Knowing this could be my chance to shine (and hoping to avoid gathering too much dust in the shop), I quickly shifted into gear! The RBM team worked their magic and booked me up for special jobs with local health care providers as well as outdoor graduation ceremonies all throughout our region. I absolutely love our community and wanted to do everything I could to help out during a tough time!
News You Can Use – Let’s Get To The Stats
Before I was born – back in 2015, to be exact – digital out of home spending accounted for only about 17% of all out of home advertising in the US. In case you didn’t know, “out-of-home” media includes stuff like billboards, benches, taxi signs, wild posters, and all that shiznat. Fast forward to 2020 and digital out-of-home (which includes media like me!) is now accounting for nearly 33 percent of all OOH advertising!
Just when I thought the news couldn’t get better, Kevin went on to tell me that these numbers are on track to increase to 42% by 2023. Whaaaaaat?! Even though I’m not a big math guy, I’d like to think that I personally had something to do with that number going up… (wink wink)

Ooooo I’m glad you asked! If you didn’t already know, I come from a whole family of DAVs with more on the way.
